Biography Russell Daisey
Russell Daisey is a multi talented performer, composer, lyricist, record producer, pianist, singer, and actor. Russell Daisey's 9/11 tribute song “Towers of Light”, was written in collaboration with noted psychologist, Dr. Judy Kuriansky, who served as co-lyricist. "Towers of Light" has been performed on National Public Radio, United Nations Radio Network, at the United Nations, at the 5th annual Japanese Lantern Lighting Ceremony (held on the Hudson River at West Houston Street Pier 60), the University Settlement, the Union Hospital, (Union, New Jersey), Person of the Year Gala Benefit, a 9/11/05 memorial ceremony at Town Hall, Greenwich, Connecticut and at services held at St. Roman Catholic Church also in Greenwich. The lyrics have been published in ‘Psychologie Forum’ (2003) 10: Springer-Verlag 2003, Printed in Austria. Mr. Daisey performs nationally as a soloist and with the Russell Daisey Quartet and Big American Swing Band. He has performed for notables such as President and Mrs. Bill Clinton, Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton, Vice President and Mrs. Al Gore, former President and Mrs. George Herbert Walker Bush, Prime Minister and Mrs. Brian Mulroney, HRH The Princess Of Kuwait, Mrs. Anwar Sadat, Ambassadors-Pamela Harriman and Ellis Rabb, Dr. Elie Weisel, United States Senators-Schummer, Clinton, Rockefeller, Kerry, Lautenberg, Conrad, Dorgan; Governors McGreevey, Rendell, Florio, Kane, Byrne and Rolands.
Mr. Daisey has appeared in concert with Kitty Carlisle Hart, Henry Price, Lee Roy Reems, Hal David, Eddie Bracken and has opened for Eartha Kit, Dorothy Loudan, Julie Wilson, Pat Cooper, The Four Aces, Henny Youngman, Walter Cronkite and Malcolm Forbes.
Mr. Daisey served as musical director for “The Taffetas” Off Broadway as well as forming the first road company. They opened nationally in concert for Mr. Ray Charles. Television appearances include musical performances with Miss Margaret Whiting, Mr. Johnny Hartman, Mr. Bobbie Weinstein-composer-”Goin’ Out Of My Head”, “It’s Gonna Take a Miracle” and in the underground New York cable television hit “The Belle Of New York”. Mr. Daisey has performed in almost every New York cabaret venue serving as both musical director and featured performer.
His New York and regional theater performances include “The Taffetas”, “Zoo Story”, “Snoopy”, “Once Upon A Mattress”, “Carousel”, “The Meehans”, “Letters To Ben”, “Messiah”, “Hollywood Days-Broadway Nights”, “Mae West at the Club El Feh” and “Bloodfeud”.
Mr. Daisey has taught musical theater performance, voice and vocal repertoire at The Circle In The Square Theater School, New York University, Lehman College and currently at Teachers College Columbia University. Some former students include Mr. Kevin Bacon, Mr. Ken Olin, Miss Ally Sheedy, Miss Winny Holtzman (writer) B’way-“Wicked”, Television -“Thirty Something”,“My So Called Life” and “Once and Again”, Miss Julia Barr and Miss Jill Larsen-“All My Children”.
Russell is a graduate of The Manhattan School of Music, having studied classical Piano with Miss Constance Keene and Miss Jeanne Behrend. Mr. Daisey’s training includes vocal studies with Miss Uta Graf, Miss Jean Hammons and Miss Stephanie Samaris. Mr. Daisey studied acting/improvisation with Miss Stella Adler, Mr. Steven Strimpell, Donna McKechnie, Tamara Wilcox, Patricia Brooks, Martha Schlamme and Mr. Nikos Psacheropoulos.
